Body and Mind
Homeostasis is the body’s natural state of being. All processes of the body are working in perfect harmony.
Today our bodies and minds have been deregulated due to the consistent stresses in our world and we have lost our balance and connection.

Prolonged stress creates a flight or fight response resulting in shallow breathing causing our bodies to go into oxidative stress. Long term stress causes systems of the body to degenerate and is associated with various mental health problems and medical issues including:
Anxiety and Depression
Long term stress can contribute to the development and exacerbation of anxiety and depression. The continuous activation of the body’s stress response system can impact neurotransmitter levels in the brain which influence mood.
Sleep Issues
Chronic stress can disrupt sleep patterns leading to difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep and insomnia, contributing to the heightened stress levels and worsening mental health.
Gastrointestinal Issues
Stress has been liked to digestive problems such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), indigestion and inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The gut and brain are connected through the vagus nerve, highlighting the intricate relationship between the digestive system and central nervous system. Together playing a role in regulating emotional and stress responses.
Cardiovascular Problems
Long term stress can contribute to cardiovascular issues, including an increased risk of hypertension, heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions. Stress triggers physiological responses that if sustained can negatively impact the heart and blood vessels.
Pain and Muscle Tension
Stress often manifests physically, resulting in chronic pain, headaches, and other bodily discomforts. The relationship between stress is bidirectional meaning, stress can exacerbate pain and chronic pain can contribute to increased stress levels.
Substance Use and Problems
Individuals may turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with stress which can lead to the development of substance use disorders which further compound mental health challenges.
Immune System Suppression
Chronic stress can weaken the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and illnesses. Leading to more frequent illnesses and longer recovery times.

By addressing stress and adopting healthy coping mechanisms, lifestyle changes, stress management techniques and incorporating activities which promote relaxation and resilience, you can significantly reduce the associated risks both mentally and physically.
